Thank you to everyone who joined us on June 23, 2026 for our bariatric surgery support group. We were pleased to welcome Dr Ali Zarrouk, bariatric surgeon, for a special Question and Answer session.
Our meeting was held at our Campbelltown rooms, and Dr Zarrouk began the evening by answering several pre-submitted questions from group members. He gave a clear, easy-to-follow presentation covering a range of important topics, including:
Topics discussed
- Reflux after gastric sleeve surgery.
- Iron deficiency after gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgery.
- Revisional bariatric surgery.
- The use of anti-inflammatory medications after bariatric surgery.
- Ulcers after gastric bypass surgery.
- Internal hernia after gastric bypass surgery.
- GLP-1 agonists, including Wegovy and Mounjaro, as adjuncts to bariatric surgery.
These topics led to a thoughtful and engaging group discussion, with attendees sharing their experiences and asking follow-up questions. It was a warm and open session, and everyone had an opportunity to contribute and feel heard.
We then opened the floor for any other questions. Dr Zarrouk’s answers helped clarify common concerns and offered useful guidance for long-term success after surgery. The discussion was informative, reassuring, and often filled with laughter.
Refreshments and prizes
As always, we enjoyed tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and a selection of sample products kindly provided by BN, including:
- Multivitamins.
- Calcium chews in a variety of flavours.
- Meal replacement samples.
- Protein supplement samples.
To finish off the evening, we held our lucky door prize draw, with winners choosing between a protein shaker and a bariatric portion plate and bowl set.
We’re already looking forward to our next session. Whether you’re pre-op, post-op, or supporting a loved one through their journey, our support group is a welcoming space to learn, share, and stay connected.
